Florida State Geography Bee 2017

Incentives for New Schools to Participate in the National Geographic Florida Geography Bee

The Florida Geographic Alliance would like to encourage new schools to participate in the National Geographic Bee. Information about the Bee can be found at the websites listed below:

There is plenty of time to register (registration doesn’t close until January 23, 2017) and there is plenty of time to conduct a school geography Bee (school geography Bees can be held through February 6, 2017).

The Florida Geographic Alliance is offering an incentive to schools holding a Geography Bee for the first time ever (or schools that have not held a Geography Bee in the past 5 years). We will award (2) two $500 prizes. To be eligible for these prizes, a school needs to:

  • Register for the National Geographic Bee

  • Let us know that you’ll be conducting a school geography Bee (email us at  roldako@ju.edu)

  • Conduct your school Bee and film/record the most interesting parts (student and teacher preparations, asking and answering questions, determining the school Bee champion)

  • Send us a 3-5 minute video of your school geography Bee.

  • The schools with the two best videos (as determined by the National Geographic Florida Geography Bee staff) will receive a check for $500 to be spent whichever way the school chooses.

  • Get us your videos by February 20, 2017, and the winners will be selected by February 24.

  • In addition to the cash prize, we will acknowledge the winning schools and broadcast their videos at the National Geographic State Geography Bee held in Jacksonville on March 31, 2017.

We hope you will join the fun!
